Australian Standards and Regulations

NSW legislation has changed. As of 2026, AS 1851-2012 is now a mandatory law. If you aren’t testing monthly/bi-annually, you could face massive fines and voided insurance.

What is AS 1851?
AS 1851-2012 is the Australian Standard that outlines the routine servicing requirements for fire protection systems and equipment. It establishes the minimum requirements for inspection, testing, preventive maintenance, and surveying of fire safety assets to ensure they remain operational and compliant.

Compliance with AS 1851 is not simply a formality, it is a legal obligation. Failing to maintain fire protection systems in accordance with the Standard can lead to significant penalties, potential insurance complications, and, most importantly, increased risk of system failure during an emergency.
